Happy New Year to all our friends and colleagues and welcome to the first Daybook e-letter of the year. Once again it contains news, views and information about new things that we hope will be of interest. There are also practical tips to help you get the best out of your Daybook system.
We hope you enjoy it and find it helpful.
New Daybook site goes live
Go to www.daybook.co.uk and you will see our new-look website. It's a content-rich site and you will find a lot to interest you there. And we intend to add to it extensively over coming months, making it a really valuable resource for users and prospective clients alike.
We announced Caliban - the Web Wizard - in the last e-letter. Though still in development and testing, it is now providing the power behind the new Daybook website.
Caliban is a unique tool to help you:
* Produce and host highly targeted web pages
* Optimise their chances of being found by search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, HotBot, Lycos, AltaVista.
Is there information freely available on the web that would be valuable to your business if you had it at your fingertips? Do you know where to find it, but can't justify the expense of having someone read and type hundreds, thousands, or maybetens of thousands of snippets of information?
If so, just ask Daybook. We'll automate the process of extracting the information on your behalf and give it to you in database-ready form at an affordable price.
A company set up a dedicated server to do a back up using Windows NT (not 4D Backup). They duly put in a new tape every day and the server did its backup.
One day the machine was running rather slowly. NT Tools reported that the hard drive was fragmented and offered to defragment it, advising: "Make sure to back up before you proceed". Since they were confident that they had been backing up each day, they went ahead ahead.
The defragmentation process failed - and when it finished they could no longer access their all-important data file. Time to use the backup...
The Daybook Macro Language is an incredibly versatile way to expand the capability of your system. Just a few simple lines of code can add an important piece of functionaility. Here's an example. Run this macro when you have a company record active and it will open a browser page showing the company's location.
This macro will run within both Modulus and Daybook Enterprise.
We would like to remind customers that we are always eager to receive feedback. If you have any suggestions for changes or enhancements to any Daybook product, or if there is anything that would make your life easier (and is in our power to change) then please take the time to let us know.
