4D error codes
This technical note provides a list of the most common 4D error numbers, and a brief guide to their meaning.
4D Backup
Error Number Description 1000 An error occurred. (An error occurred during the backup.) 1101 Wrong project. (The project does not correspond to the open database.) 1102 Not a project. (The specified document is not a 4D Backup project.) 1103 Nothing to back up. (No files were specified for the backup.) 1201 Wrong enclosure. (This file cannot be added because it is a data, structure, or log file.) 1202 Duplicate enclosure. (This file already exists in the list of enclosures.) 1203 Too many enclosures. (This file cannot be added because the maximum number of enclosures has been reached.) 1204 This is not an enclosure. (Impossible to remove this file from the list of enclosures; it is not in the list.) 1301 Backup already started. (The backup process has already been created.) 1302 Backup not started. (The backup process has not been created. 1303 Wrong destination. (The destination volume cannot be found or the access path has been modified.) 1304 Can t launch the backup. (Verify that you have correctly installed 4D Backup.) 1305 4D Backup is not installed in 4D Server. 1401 Wrong mirror. (This mirror exists, but does not correspond to the open database.) 1402 Mirror not found. (This mirror does not exist or is not available.) 1403 No log file. (This database is working without a log file.) 1404 A transaction is opened in this process. (Validate or cancel the transaction before calling 4D Backup.) 1405 Switching the log file is not possible. 1406 An old log file already exists. (A MyBase.log.2 file already exists.) 1407 The new log file cannot be created. 1408 The new log file cannot be opened.
4D Remote
Error Number Description 2 Unable to establish a connection. 3 Unable to open a connection. Verify your configuration. 4 No dial tone. Verify that your modem is correctly connected to the telephone line. 5 Line is busy. Reattempt your call in a few minutes. 6 The connection has been cut. Verify the settings of your modem. 10 The remote modem is not connected to 4D Server. 11 Your version of 4D Remote is incompatible with the distant 4D Remote. 12 The communication port PortName cannot be found. Verify your configuration. 13 Unable to open the communication port PortName (Error ErrorNumber). 14 Name or password is incorrect! You must verify your name and password. 15 Access is not valid. Change the access or contact the administrator of the server. 16 The date limit of access has been passed. 18 The new password is too short. Use a longer password. 19 You cannot connect at this time. You must change the access or contact the administrator of the server. 20 Unfortunately, you don t have the right to change your password.
4D Server
Error Number Description -10504 Index page # is out of range (index needs to be repaired) -10503 Record # is out of range (during GOTO RECORD, or data file needs to be repaired) -10502 Invalid record structure (data file needs to be repaired) -10501 Invalid index page (index needs to be repaired) -10500 Invalid record address (database needs to be repaired) -10132 Some connection parameters are invalid. -10131 The connection has been aborted. -10130 State of the connection does not allow you to continue this session. -10051 Incorrect value in Get/SetOption. -10050 Unknown option in Get/SetOption. -10021 No server was found while using OP Find 4D server. -10020 No server was selected while using OP Select 4D server. -10003 Bad connection parameters. -10002 The connection for this process has been disrupted. -10001 The actual connection to the database has been disrupted. -9999 No more room to save the record -9998 Duplicated key -9997 Maximum number of records has been reached -9996 Stack is full (too much recursion or nested calls) -9995 Demo limit has been reached -9994 Serial communication interrupted by the user-user pressed Option-Space -9993 Menu bar is damaged (database needs to be repaired) -9992 Wrong password -9991 Privileges error -9990 Time-out error -9989 Invalid structure (database needs to be repaired) -9987 Some other records are already related to this record -9986 Record locked during an automatic deletion action -9985 Recursive integrity -9984 Transaction has been cancelled because of a duplicated index key error -9983 The same external package is installed twice -9982 The record was not loaded because it is not in the selection on the workstation -9981 Invalid field name/field number definition table sent by the workstation -9980 The file cannot be created because the structure is locked -9979 Unknown user -9978 Bad user password -9977 The selection does not exist -9976 Backup in progress, no modification allowed -9975 Transaction index page could not be loaded -9974 Record has already been deleted -9973 The TRIC resources are not the same -9972 File number is out of range requested by workstation -9971 Field number is out of range requested by workstation -9970 Field is not indexed -9969 Invalid field type requested by workstation -9968 Invalid selected record number requested by workstation -9967 The record could not be modified because it could not be loaded -9966 Invalid type requested by a workstation -9965 Bad search definition table sent by a workstation -9964 Bad sort definition table sent by a workstation -9963 Invalid record number requested by a workstation -9962 The backup cannot be launched because the server is shutting down -9961 The backup process is not currently running -9960 4D BACKUP is not installed on the server -9959 The backup process has already been started by another user or process -9958 The process could not be started -9957 The choice list is locked -9956 Versions of 4D Client and 4D Server are different -9955 QuickTime is not installed -9954 There is no current record -9953 There is no Log file -9952 Invalid data segment header -9951 This field has no relation -9950 Invalid data segment number 1 ( expected 2 Field expected 2 The user clicked the Other button while using OP Select 4D Server. 3 The command may be executed only on a field in a subfile 4 Parameters in the list must all be of the same type 5 There is no File to apply the command to 6 The command may only be executed on a field of type: a Subfile 7 A numeric argument was expected 8 An alphanumeric argument was expected 9 The result of a conditional test was expected 10 The command can t be applied to this field type 11 The command can t be applied between two conditional tests 12 The command can t be applied between two numeric arguments 13 The command can t be applied between two alphanumeric arguments 14 The command can t applied between two date arguments 15 The operation is not compatible with the two arguments 16 The field has no relation 17 A File was expected 18 Field types are incompatible 19 The field is not indexed 20 An = was expected 21 The procedure does not exist 22 The fields must belong to the same le or subfile for a sort or graph 23 "< or > expected 24 "; expected 25 There are too many fields for a sort 26 The field type must be alpha, date, or numeric 27 The field must be prefixed by its file s name 28 The field type must be numeric 29 The value must be 1 or 0 30 A variable was expected 31 There is no menu bar with this number 32 A date was expected 33 Unimplemented command or function 35 The sets are from different files 36 The filename is bad 37 ":= expected 39 The set does not exist 40 This is a function, not a procedure 41 A variable or field belonging to a subfile was expected 42 The record can t be pushed onto the stack 43 The function can t be found 44 The procedure can t be found 45 Field or variable expected 46 A numeric or alphanumeric argument was expected 47 The field type must be alpha 48 Syntax error 49 This operator can t be used here 50 These operators can t be used together 52 An array was expected 53 Indice out of range 54 Argument types are incompatible 55 A Boolean argument was expected 56 Field, variable, or file expected 57 An operator was expected 58 ") expected 59 This kind of argument was not expected here 60 A parameter or a local variable cannot be used in an EXECUTE statement in a compiled database 61 The type of an array cannot be modified in a compiled database 62 This command cannot be applied to a subfile 63 The field is not indexed
4D Write
Error Number Description 1000 The paragraph is too large. 1001 Invalid paragraph type. 1002 Error while printing. 1003 Invalid left margin (too close to the right margin). 1004 Invalid indentation (too close to the right margin). 1005 Invalid right margin (too close to the indent and/or left margin). 1006 Invalid tab parameter. 1007 The second parameter passed to WRGETTABS is invalid or missing. 1008 Your document is too large. Only a part of the document will be displayed. 1009 There is not enough memory to copy or cut your selection. 1010 Out of memory. A part of the document is lost. 1011 Out of memory. Make the document shorter. 1012 The file could not be saved. 1013 Invalid selection. The beginning of the selection is before the start of file or the end of document is before the beginning of the selection. 1014 Invalid reference to an external file. 1015 The file could not be read. 1016 Invalid menu item number. 1017 This field does not seem to be a 4DWrite field. 1018 Unknown file type. 1019 Invalid hot link type. 1020 This hot link does not exist. 1022 Invalid area in external command call. 1022 Invalid area in external command call. 1023 Invalid 4th Dimension file number. 1024 A field of type Text can accept a maximum of 32000 characters. 1025 You have not installed the correct Claris translators to read/write this file. 1026 Out of memory. This command cannot be undone. 1027 Invalid MacWrite file. Try opening the file with MacWrite. 1028 Invalid parameter for the command WR GENERIC SELECT. 1029 This file does not contain a style sheet. 1030 String is too long. 1031 XTND is not installed. 1032 This file does not exist. 1033 The file could not be created. 1034 No picture has been selected. 1035 Invalid Size parameter. 1036 Invalid Position parameter. 1037 No references have been selected. 1038 This style does not exist. 1039 String too long to name a style sheet. 1040 Value is out of range. 1041 Insufficient memory to execute this command. 1042 This font does not exist. 1043 Invalid character size (less than 0 or greater than 127). 1052 Insufficient memory for pasting selection. 1053 You cannot insert a field. No file available. 1054 The first parameter is not valid. 1055 The second parameter is not valid. 1056 The third parameter is not valid. 1057 The fourth parameter is not valid. 1058 The fifth parameter is not valid. 1059 XTND is already active. Only one operation can be performed at a time. 1060 You cannot insert a sub-field. 1061 At least one hot link has been removed because it was not published. 1062 At least one hot link has not been updated, for insufficient memory. 1063 Hot link cannot be published under this name, it already exists. 1064 Hot link cannot be subscribed, it would create circular references 1070 Cannot insert hyphen at this place. 1071 There is already a hyphen at this place. 1072 There is no hyphen to remove at this place
IMPORTANT NOTE
When making any major changes to your data or undertaking processes with which you are unfamiliar, you should always work on a copy of your data, or ensure that it has been backed up, so that you could revert to this, if your changes were to go wrong.
Backups, for a variety of reasons, do not always work, so it is vital to physically check that your backup has been successful and could be restored if necessary before proceeding.
