By George, he won!

Daybook's Rollo Carpenter has landed a major computing prize and a place on the front page of a national newspaper. When he's not too busy developing our new web wizard Caliban (if you sign up now, you can use for a year free of charge), Rollo, as previously reported in this bulletin, is big on small talk. His chatbot, Jabberwacky has been a labour of love for years, and, according to Rollo, people spend up to seven hours a day talking to it online.

You have (intelligent) mail

Ever wished that you could send emails that did intelligent things before they left? Email as it is generally used is a pretty blunt instrument. That is all changed now with the new Email Macro facility in Enterprise 6. Now if you are doing an email shot you can have a macro do things which are precisely targeted to individual circumstances.

It's panic inducing and unintelligible, but the meaning of the message that appeared out of nowhere, accompanied by a small sound just to make sure that you don't miss it, is quite clear - whatever you just did, your computer didn't like it. And to make sure that you are in no doubt at all about what it was, there is the explanation, "ID=-10098".

Tip of the month - installing 4D Client

We thought it would be timely, with the new Tiger-friendly releases of 4D , 2003.7 and 2004.2 to give a some simple guidelines about installing 4D Client.

If you are installing a Windows version, the first thing to do is to configure the memory allocation. To do this you will need to use the 4D Customizer Plus, which came with your 4D software. Launch this programme and go to the File menu and open you 4D Client software. Then use the Customizer to configure the application's memory to 20 blocks of 10,000k.
